Brint Anderson

Steward of the Blues Legacy

About Me:

Brint Anderson is a seasoned blues artist whose unique guitar style and heartfelt vocals have evolved through more than 50 years of performing in Mississippi, Texas, and New Orleans. Grounded in Delta blues and infused with New Orleans funk, Brint delivers a sound that is both genuine and dynamic. From his early days leading a band in Natchez to performing alongside music legends, Brint has established a legacy characterized by authenticity, talent, and a steadfast devotion to the blues.

Influenced early by Mississippi bluesman Papa George Lightfoot, Brint delved into the music of Elmore James, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King, crafting a style that fuses traditional Delta blues with the rhythms of New Orleans funk and the essence of classic rock. His distinct slide guitar playing and extensive mastery of finger-picking methods showcase a lifetime dedicated to studying and performing at the highest standard.

Brint’s career has spanned from local stages in Mississippi to national tours and notable collaborations. In the 1970s, he gained regional popularity with Blue John, a dynamic band that featured future jazz star Cassandra Wilson. After moving to Austin, Texas, Brint formed Coupe de Ville, performing with artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Dr. John—an experience that paved the way to New Orleans, where he solidified his role in the city’s vibrant music scene.

Respected widely as a staple in the New Orleans music community, Brint has shared the stage with legendary artists such as Dr. John, George Porter Jr., and the Neville Brothers, and has backed icons like Bruce Springsteen and Mavis Staples at The Musical Mojo of Dr. John. His career encompasses four solo albums, award-winning bands, and decades of contributions, solidifying his position as a genuine custodian of the blues tradition.

For 15 years, Brint served as the guitarist for George Porter Jr.’s Runnin’ Pardners, collaborating on five albums and supporting various New Orleans legends, including Art Neville, Johnny Adams, Snooks Eaglin, and Henry Butler. His own ensemble, the Brint Anderson Band, garnered honors such as Best New Orleans R&B Band from OffBeat Magazine and triumphed in the Abita Beer Blues Competition.

Brint’s discography features four highly regarded solo albums: Homage to Elmore (1995), I Knew This Would Happen (1997), Notes from Clarksdale (2000), and Brint Anderson (self-titled). Each illustrates his profound respect for blues heritage and his ongoing contributions to the genre.

In 2014, Brint was privileged to act as the house guitarist for The Musical Mojo of Dr. John at the Saenger Theater, sharing the stage with icons like Bruce Springsteen, John Fogerty, Mavis Staples, Warren Haynes, and Jimmie Vaughan, along with New Orleans greats like Allen Toussaint and the Neville Brothers.

Brint’s lifelong dedication transcends performance. He pays homage to the original masters—like Elmore James, Robert Johnson, and Muddy Waters—while infusing his artistry with original compositions and distinctive slide guitar techniques. His tribute albums, including Homage to Elmore, alongside his years supporting blues legends, reflect his commitment to preserving the music’s legacy, maintaining its standards, and ensuring its ongoing relevance.
